Day Cross – A traditional gift for baptism, confirmation and wedding

Baptism, confirmation and wedding are some of the biggest events in life. These are events that deserve some gifts of a special nature. You can give that with a Dagmarkros. Because not only is it a strong symbol. It is also a timeless pendant that can not only be used for special occasions, but can also be passed down for generations.

Is there a tradition in your family to give a Dagmarkors? Would you like to surprise the confirmation candidate, who may not already have a Dagmarkors? It is a very beautiful and caring gift, which we would very much like to be a part of.

We have therefore put together a selection of Dagmarkors in gold and silver, with and without the Lord's Prayer engraved. These pendants are from renowned Danish jewelry designers, so you can be sure of getting a piece of jewelry of high quality.

Where does the Dagmark Cross come from?

Once upon a time there was a queen. Her name was Queen Dagmar. She came from Bohemia and was the admired queen of King Valdemar the Victorious. She died in the early 13th century. It was not until almost 500 years later – in 1683 – that the cross was found in one of the royal graves in St. Bendt's Church in Ringsted. It was handed over to the Royal Danish Art Gallery and given the story that it belonged to the beloved Queen Dagmar.

A small twist to the story, however, is that it is actually more likely that the Dagmarkorset belonged to Valdemar Sejr's sister, Richiza. Both of their graves were destroyed, which is why there is doubt as to which of the two women the cross belonged to.

The original cross is today at the National Museum. Here you can see the magnificent work with Christ on the cross on one side and the Virgin Mary, Christ and John the Baptist on the other.

Whether it belonged to Queen Dagmar or not, it is a beautiful story and a very beautiful cross that to this day is still a popular tradition to give at baptism.

Why give a Day of the Dead cross as a christening gift?

The Dagmarkrosset is today a national symbol. It represents a strong narrative about Denmark as a Christian society. Even though we are less Christian today than we were in the past and when it was found, it still stands as a traditional symbol that means something to many.

The tradition began with King Frederik VII back in 1863, who gave Danish Princess Alexandra a copy of the cross as a wedding gift. But it wasn't just a copy. Court jeweler Diderichsen, who was responsible for the piece of jewelry, placed a piece of silk from the tomb of Canute the Holy in the cavity of the jewelry as a relic.

This gave rise to great publicity and gave rise to the spread and popularity of the Day Cross as a piece of jewelry among the best part of the Danish bourgeoisie. Copies of these were then produced on a large scale and given as gifts for baptisms , confirmations and weddings.

When you give a Dagmarkors as a christening gift, you are passing on a part of Danish history. We think that is a very beautiful thought.

Find a beautiful chain for the Day of the Dead cross

Don't you just want to give the cross as a gift? Although we sell our selection of silver and gold Dagmarkros as a pendant, you also have the option of combining it with a beautiful chain. Of course, we also have a selection of different types of chains, so you can give a complete piece of jewelry for a baptism, confirmation or wedding.

The chain is just as much a part of the jewelry as it adds edge to the whole. If you need help choosing the right chain, we are happy to help you. Because it must of course be perfect and with the right expression when you give such a special gift as the Day of the Dead Cross. We will then be happy to send it assembled and wrapped if you wish.

Daymark cross in gold or silver

There are many different ideas for what a Day of the Dead cross can look like. Here at the shop alone, we have a handful of different variants that you can choose from. But it's not just the design that varies. The material does too. We have therefore chosen to have both silver and gold Day of the Dead crosses in our range, so that you can choose the precious metal that suits the recipient best, based on your wishes or preferences.

If you choose a Day of the Dead cross in gold, you can be sure that it is the real thing. You can choose between 8kt and 14kt gold. In other words, it is a pendant and a piece of jewelry that will last a lifetime if you or the recipient takes good care of it. The quality is there for that. But because they are made of gold, it also means that they cost a little more than our silver variants. Regardless of your budget, you have the opportunity to choose the best-suited Day of the Dead cross.

A thoughtful and beautiful gift

A piece of jewelry is in itself a very personal gift. But when it is wrapped like a Dagmarkskors, there is a special and extra great meaning in the gift. It has been chosen with extra care and consideration. It is beautiful.

When you give a Day Cross, you are not giving just any piece of jewelry. Because you are giving something that is meant to accompany the person throughout their life. You are giving something that will have sentimental value and that may even be passed down to the next generation.

We are therefore also very helpful if you want advice and guidance on the right choice of cross. Because it is a great gift to give, which is why it is quite natural that there are also great thoughts behind it. Whether it is for the choice of the cross itself, a chain or the jewelry as a whole, we are here to help you choose the best possible gift.

Even though we are physically present in Holstebro, that doesn't stop us from helping you in another part of the country - because we are also here online and by telephone.
