Cleaning gold jewelry – how to do it
Gold jewelry is relatively easy to care for and maintain, as long as you take precautions and take it off when cleaning, bathing, and generally being active. Pure gold jewelry does not oxidize and therefore only becomes slightly dull over time. But you can easily do something about that with a little lukewarm water and a soft polishing cloth. You can also use a polish to restore the shine completely. However, be careful with pearls and gemstones so that they do not get scratched by the polish.
It's a little different with gold-plated jewelry, which you can also find at Viclara. Because under the coating you will find sterling silver, which also oxidizes and can discolor the jewelry. Use lukewarm water and a soft cloth - but don't clean the jewelry too often.
The gold coating can easily wear off, which is why it is important not to use polish. If the shine has faded, you can always go to a jeweler who can help you. If the gilding is wearing off, you can also get it re-gilded when you come to us or another jeweler.
